The Shihab Thangal Dialysis Centre, started by the CH Centre in the four-storied building in 2010, can claim to be the first-ever Community Dialysis Center in the country. Equipped with 17 dialysis machines and staffed with 30 well-trained personnel, the centre provides dialysis to more than fifty renal patients daily in three shifts absolutely free of cost.
The CH Centre also focuses on palliative care, with the Pookoya Thangal Hospice dedicated to providing palliative care for individuals with life-threatening illnesses. This hospice operates in a separate block adjacent to the main Centre. It includes a palliative trauma care unit, an inpatient (IP) and outpatient (OP) facility, a physical therapy center, and dormitory facilities for those traveling from distant areas. Additionally, the hospice offers comprehensive support services for both patients and their families, ensuring holistic care.
CH Centre Kozhikode, as part of Shihab Thangal Institute of Medicine (STIMS) project envisaged a palliative care unit in 2019. As per advice of state IUML, especially that of Syed Hyderali Shihab thangal CH Centre planned for a palliative project with the name of Pookoya Thangal Hospice with intention to provide the palliative service to various parts of the state though establishing local units.
The PTH unit, located near the central office, includes IP and OP facilities and operates 3-day home care and night emergency services. It runs 24×7, supported by 3 doctors, including Dr. Shohida MBBS, with a team of 12 nurses and 4 drivers. Serving 5 constituencies, the unit's services are well accepted and appreciated by the public.
